As an example let's say that you have a device at a remote site that is being monitored by Solarwinds. These particular devices are being monitored via SNMP but they do not report/have cpu, hard disk or memroy usage to report. If the device goes down you know that it's down as it can no longer be pinged & the Node Status is going to go Red on your summary page & it's clear that there's a problem. Let's say the device is able to send in information that states it is on battery backup power and can send that information in via the poller. If that information could be passed to Orion via UNDP you could have that node turn red for any number of "major" or "critical" alarms. While you can still have an email sent out for the various alarms this would give you an added level of alert by having the status go from a nice problem free Green to a I-need-attention-now Red.
