Configuring AppInsight for so many servers with different needs is really challenging when I cannot override or disable these monitors easily.
Why is this template so inflexible and so difficult to control?
How can I create alerts for Appinsight SQL for specific component types?
In other words, I want an Appinsight monitored server to give me alerts only on the WMI process types within the template. I cannot select a component type.
Aer you guys doing anything to help alleviate the painful customization options or lack thereof with this template?
Its truly a PITA with so many SQL servers in place for many different clients with many different needs.
I can do all of this so simply with SCOM, someone show me how AppInsight can be customized on a per server basis, and disable any of the monitors at will. Nevermind, I already asked in the past and the answer was you cannot (love how the override template flashes the disable/enable box, then suddenly disappears). We lose so much not using SCOM for SQL, I simply do not see how Appinsight gives me any control over the unwieldy noisy monitors and views. This is not a "SCOM VS SolarWinds" rant, its simply the truth. Appinsight is quite simply mega difficult to control, configure and apply. Someone tell me I am wrong and show me how SQL Appinsight can be tweaked and customized with ease.
If I just have to create 100 different templates for 100 different servers, then Microsoft truly does win in this feature comparison. Sorry to say the M and S word, but I am losing patience with monitoring SQL for 100 servers with differing needs. What I was able to do easily with SCOM I cannot at all do with SW. My other thread with the macro issue also makes us wonder if SW is the best solution for app monitoring.
