IPAM database how to map City from IPAM_GroupAttrData table to a IP in IPAM_node table

0
0

hello,
i am trying to query the IPAM database and get a list of all IP addresses. i would also need the city for each of the IP Address. i see a column called City in  IPAM_GroupAttrData, but there is no groupID column in the IPAM_node table to map these through a join. i am wondering how i can get this information, as for sure there has to be a way. The UI shows a tree of all cities and shows IP addresses inside each of the cities. sso wondereing from where the UI is fetching data to assign a city to an IP address?

any help is greatly appreciated.

Next Scheduled run time NCM Jobs

NCM jobs are great and as long as you have them scheduled properly. The problem I'm noticing is that you can't tell if you did schedule it properly from the Jobs page. I'd like to see a column on the NCM Jobs page that says the next time that it will run, similar to what you see for task scheduler in Windows.

Unable to restart service on the node using SWQL Studio

Hello All.

When trying to restart Windows service using SWQL using Orion.APM.ServerManagement.RestartService getting the following error (provided correct nodeID, credentialId, serviceName):

-<Faultxmlns="http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope">

-<Code>

<Value>Sender</Value>

</Code>

-<Reason>

</InformationServiceFaultContract>

</Detail>

</Fault>

Looks like error message from completely different area, Orion does not understand valid ID of WMI Credentials of type "System.Int32", and very much looks like a bug...

Is anyone experienced it and is there any workaround?

We have many of our internal customers using UDT and it would help them from picking up the phone to ask if a port is err-disabled if they could see it themselves.

LEM Distributed Architecture

I would love to see LEM broken out into a distributed architecture where you would have the ability to choose which roles an appliance plays; Log Processor, Log Database and Log Manager.

Log Processor = A collection point for logs where agents send their logs and where systems can send their logs, this is where logs would be processed.

Log Database = This is where the logs are stored, any form of backup tasks would take place here as well.

Log Manager = This would provide the UI as well as the communication broker for the different systems in the environment.

Any given appliance once installed could be configured to perform all of these functions or only a one of these functions.  By doing this processing and storage could be distributed and you could also easily have different collection points within a DMZ.  This would also provide the flexibility for future capabilities.

SolarWinds Certified Professional Exams are Live

The SolarWinds Academy is excited to announce the official launch of the new and completely updated SolarWinds Certified Professional® program.

Based on the feedback from SCPs around the world, we focused on two key aspects of the program that needed attention: creating lasting value for SCPs and helping SCPs succeed.

We want to create lasting value.

We created the SCP program in 2009 because we knew our customers wanted to demonstrate that they have the skills needed to manage networks effectively using SolarWinds products. Unfortunately, as time passed, the program did not grow with our products. The SolarWinds certification became outdated, and did not hold enough value to be a competitive player on the global IT stage.

To create lasting value, we made two key changes:

  • Relevance: To help ensure IT professionals have knowledge of the most current SolarWinds products, the SCP exams will now be updated with each new product release
  • Security: The SCP exams are now provided through online, proctored services so that the world knows that the holder of a SolarWinds certificate is the person who earned it

We want IT professionals to feel pride and a sense of achievement at becoming an SCP.

We want our customers to succeed.

Our customers’ success drives everything we do. Because the world of IT is always growing and changing, continuing education is an integral part of being a successful IT pro. To encourage continued growth, we added several benefits that members can use to increase their knowledge.

New benefits include:

  • SCP webcasts
  • SCP online advanced training
  • SCP invitations to live events
  • SCP study hours with SolarWinds experts
  • Access to select GNS3® courses
  • For SCPs working for SolarWinds customers under active maintenance, you will be recognized as an SCP member within the support system and provided with an enhanced support experience

There are various possible improvements for Dameware, but this time I'd like to better understand performance issues specifically.

Please if you have any other areas let us know in comments!

Cyber Security Awareness October!

What are you doing for Cyber Security Awareness month this October 2018? The president sent a tweet and I changed my password. Apparently, according to Bloomberg, the Chinese manufacturer for SuperMicro has been embedding secret hacker chips into server motherboards that wound up at Apple and Amazon.

Are you worried yet?

Directory and file listings

Hi

I've set up an account in Serv-U with a home directory on our network share.

These are the folder rules:

Folder settings

The user was able to create subfolders and put files in them via FTP (21) access. I can see the folders and files on the NTFS share, but when they try to access the subfolders now from the FTP, the folders within are empty.

If they try to create a new folder with the same name as an already existing one (which they can't see) they get an error saying the folder already exists.

The NTFS permissions are set as inherited as well.

The tree looks like this to them:

Tree1

But it should look more like this:

Tree2

We have tried many different clients (FTP Voyager, FileZilla, WebClient) with the same result.

What could be a cause for this?

Export / Import maps - Network Atlas

Can someone point me to where, once exported, I can then re-import network maps into Network Atlas?

There is clearly an export function available, with various export options, yet look as I have, I see no option anywhere to import back into Network Atlas... ?

Use case for this for me is that I want to clear out a bunch of existing maps without deleting them and then have the option to add them back (import them) should I need to without having to recreate them all.

Thanks in advance,
Daniel

Enable Radius/Tacacs for Web Based Login

We rely heavily on 2FA in our company and we feel NPM should be able to support Radius/Tacacs+ Web Based Authentication.

We found that Microsoft AD is not the best way of Authenticating users and doesn't support 2FA.

Please can you look to develop support for External LDAP/Radius and Tacacs+ support for Web Based Authentication.

Alert Trigger Action - Add Notes

An alert action that would allow you to add a note to the alert would be great. For example, if we could add event data from the Windows Event Log (or other real time data) to the notes of the alert, a user could drill into the alert to get this additional information without it bloating the views/dashboards like it does if you put this information in the message field or if you add it as an NPM event.

Alert Suppression State via API

Hi All,

I've been trying to find a way of checking on the current status of a node (in terms of if it's in a scheduled outage or not). Digging through the documentation I've been trying to make use of the Orion.AlertSuppression Entities, mainly GetAlertSuppressionState.

I've successfully managed to execute this verb via the Swis PowerShell module using Invoke-SwisVerb, but I've not managed to find an example of doing this via a REST call (the end result will be to query this in PHP using Guzzle).

Does anyone have any idea how to call this through either Guzzle or Curl? I've been trying to replicate this using Invoke-RestMethod in PowerShell with limited results.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Simon

Can anyone help me with a powershell script to monitor the Password expiry date for the Members of a AD group.

I tried below script which gives me the output but it also gives me "Get Output Failed" error.
