Installed SAM 6.0 beta 4 today. It looks realy good! Our DBAs like AppInsight for MSSQL.
My questions is: what is performance impact on Solariwnds databse?
In our environment about 2000 nodes (switches, servers, ... etc) are monitored. One master server (NPM+SAM), one additional poller, one NCM server. All three are VMs. Database server is on a physical box. At moment Master server CPU usage is about 50%, but additional poller is 80-90%. As the SAM 6 added lots monitors (SQL, installed apps, inventory info, ..etc). Is all the information will be stored in database? What is the polling interval? l Any performance inpact on Solarwinds database server?

Hi there, I'm new to NPM and looking through documentation to find some best practice when it comes to monitoring switches.
I have a largely nortel ERS 5500 network and thought i would start by monitoring uplinks only. One of the issues is that the Sonar Discovery wizard picks everything up except the port type. I have to manually go into each switch and select the trunk interfaces to monitor because the program didn't pick up any port types.
Is is common to have to manually select the switch ports (interfaces) you want to monitor?
Also, if there are any links to best practices for discovery of network equipment / servers / applications, that would be great.
I can only get icmp onitoring on ucs blades. but not snmp. any idea why? The community string matches ucs but the testing fails.
I need updated MIB for QNAP, and Dell TL2000/4000 devices to monitor their hardware health. Will newest Orion NPM 10.5 provide OIDs for these devices?
My QNAP device reports:
SysObjectID 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2 as enterprises.24681 where 24681 does not appear in my MIB version
My Dell TL2000 device reports:
SysObjectID 1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10893.2.102 as enterprises 674.10893.2.102 where 102 does not apper in my MIB version
Would appreciate if those devices will join Orion MIB.

We recently installed some APC UPS units. I'm running Orion NPM v10. When I added the units, I selected the Example pollers:
upsAdvBatteryCapacity, upsAdvInputLineVoltage, upsAdvOutputLoad, upsBasicBatteryStatus
But none of that data is showing up on my node details. I even tried to customize the page, but couldn't find pre-build gauges or graphs to reflect that data. Do I need to create new graphs, or is there a way to add them? I was kind of assuming since the pollers were included in the default NPM install, that the data would show up somewhere in the node details?

Just wanted to show you the improvement I have seen on the CPU usage of both the Application server and the SQL server in Beta 4. Monitoring 330 servers and about 50 Appinsight SQL instances. One thing I have also noticed is that all the SQL instances are now Critical where before just 4 or 5 would be critical at a time. Looking through them it seems that the "Top Indexes for Database" is flagged as critical. Does this have something to do with the new Threshold Baseline Calculator?

Has anyone monitored the Citrix branch repeater devices? I'm looking to pull in the compression charts/information.
Having a problem, alert central sends out an email about alert X. And in that alert there are lots of buttons, buttons aren't toys, but one button says "Add Note". When I click that my email composes a new mail in HTML, which is the default for every machine in my company. Outlook 2010 and 2013. So I fill out that email and send it back to Alert Central and it appends that note to the alert however it looks like:
And actually in the first one the txt didn't even make it into the alert. Just nothing but rich text/html text formatting. Now I get that AC wants plain, but expecting all my admins and my management to switch their default compose email to plain text is asking too much. And asking them to remember to switch every email they send back into the system to plain text is expecting to much(wizards first rule). Can anything be done here or are we fubar? I seem to remember this being a problem in beta also.
Windows default is to only show notifications from applications in the system tray. We wish to have the MRC icon always visible, so users can right-click on it and connect to the console of the helpdesk member talking to them. Many times it's easier than trying to figure out their computer's name or IP.
There's a setting (and a GPO) to show all the icons of the system tray, but there's too many useless icons to show them all. It get worst when a user hooks up their laptop to a projector; with the small resolution of the display (most projectors resolution is 1024x768) and the "show all icons" settings enabled, there's hardly enough space in the task bar for two or three applications at the same time.
Users can customize which icons are to be always displayed, but is there a way to automate the process for all users?
I would like to know if there is any offical documentation on how to or if anyone has had any expience migrating MSSQL to a new box?
I know in the latest update to "what were working on" Possible candidates for detailed documentation are SSO, Database migration, sizing, DB migration scenarios are in thier list to imrpove documenation for but at this time we do not know how long that will take to get.

finally upgraded to 10.5 and the new web CPE is good. far better than when
you first tried to release the web CPU LOL.
anyway, few things you need to fix
1. when you change from Managed nodes, to edit custom properties, the
"group by" selection revers to "no grouping" when blatantly
people are going to be looking at nodes, and want to edit custom props for that
group
2. why can i not add visible columns when in CPE mode. i have to go back to
manage nodes, THEN add columns, then go back to CPE mode (and lose my grouping
of course)
that’s all for now... good work on the upgrade process. a few typical
failures as per all SolarWinds upgrades, but you are getting better! thanks
where thanks is due! (i basically have my old thwack articles up before
starting the upgrade and use them each time I do the next one now :-) )

I add one ip in solarwinds NPM, after adding, it is showing "hardware status unknown" . i am not able to see the interfaces traffic utilization as showing "No data available"
but node added successfully in the NPM. i check the SNMP community string ,test is also successful.
what will be the reason for these, any Device poller issue.

I have a NCM job that will periodically go into a router. On tuesday, it stopped working for some unknown reason and we didn't find out until today. Is there a log where NCM process data is located? Upon further investigation, it looks like none of our NCM jobs have been running since the 2nd.
We would like to have Solarwinds NPM/MCN respond to certain alerts by dialing an out of band phone number to verify power to the device that alerted.
Before I try to reinvent the wheel - has anyone done this before or does anyone know of any documented procedures for something like this?

As you can see in the below screenshot...I clearly have the required Microsoft SQL Server 2012 System CLR Types installed, but the NCM installer can't (won't) see it and prompts me to install it.
I have tried both the original version and the SP1 version. Neither are seen by the NCM installer. I am in a time crunch here and need to get this server setup for my customer.
How am I supposed to install NCM when it doesn't see the dependency it keeps asking me to install?
